International Mother Language Day celebrated through art and music
Every year on February 21, the Bangladesh High Commission in Sri Lanka celebrates International Mother Language Day in a unique way. Instead of holding seminars or discussions, the commission collaborates with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Education to organize painting, music, and essay writing competitions for schoolchildren. This event provides an opportunity for young minds to showcase their talents and celebrate their mother tongue. In a recent celebration, renowned artist Nisansala Karunarante Rajapaksa assisted Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in painting the first letter of his mother tongue on a canvas. This initiative highlights the importance of preserving and celebrating language diversity
