In collaboration with the Bangladesh High Commission, Cancer Care Association, and Casa Serena Gallery, an Art Camp was organized at the Cancer Care Hospice in Anuradhapura in December 2019. Those facing cancer experienced joy and creativity as a result of the event. The Cancer Care Hospice in Anuradhapura cares for and supports cancer patients, and the art camp was created to allow patients to express themselves and connect with others through art.
The program was fully backed by the Bangladesh High Commission, while the Cancer Care Association donated the location for the art camp and Casa Serena Gallery provided the supplies for the participants to produce their artwork. Nisansala Karunaratne Rajapaksa, a master artist, facilitated the session and directed participants through the creative process. The artists assisted the participants in exploring various forms of art, such as painting, drawing, and sculpture.
The art camp had a significant impact on the participants. The event was therapeutic and uplifting for many of them. They were able to express themselves via art, which assisted them in coping with their condition. The event also allowed participants to connect with others who were going through similar experiences, which helped to reduce feelings of isolation. The art camp was a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the role that art can play in healing and supporting those who are facing difficult challenges.
